Agra’s Residents Celebrate Holi

AGRA, India — Taking off from Agra Fort, I was reminded that the country was celebrating Holi, the spring celebration marking the end of winter — “and for many a festive day to meet others, play and laugh, forget and forgive, and repair broken relationships, and is also celebrated as a thanksgiving for a good harvest.”

Men and boys, as far as the eye could see down Agra’s streets, were covered in a multitude of dyes, filling bags of colored powder and dousing nearby celebrants with water in deep hues of purple, orange and red.

Stopped while in a shared Bajaj by a small herd of cattle crossing the street, I met only with small amounts of coloring.
