Setting Foot in Bhaktapur Durbar Square

BHAKTAPUR, Nepal — Approaching the site of Bhaktapur Durbar Square was akin to stepping into a history book. Buildings crafted of wood and stone stood in an open courtyard, made less crowded due to earthquakes in 1934 — and 2015.

With many of the centuries-old edifices reduced to rubble more than 80 years ago, the Nepalese government was able to rebuild a lot of the more significant items that had been destroyed. It’s hard to imagine any more buildings in such close proximity.
