Deciding to Visit Bhaktapur Next

KATHMANDU, Nepal — Bhaktapur, whose name means “city of devotees,” would be my next stop.

The city’s  Nyatapola Temple, built in the early 1700s, and a few other reasons made the decision to visit the medieval city-state roughly 20 km from Kathmandu a no-brainer. Bhaktapur.com writes:

“… Bhaktapur is known as the ‘City of Devotees’, the ‘City of Culture’, the ‘Living Heritage’, and ‘Nepal’s Cultural Gem’. It is one of the 3 royal cities in the Kathmandu Valley. The others are Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, and Patan.”

Despite the presence of a Kathmandu Tuktuk and what I’m told is a tiller — not a vehicle extra on “Fury Road” — I find a local bus to take me to Bhaktapur.

While I loved Kathmandu during my short visit, something within me said it was time to move on.
