Kathmandu’s Bananas

KATHMANDU, Nepal — One of the most wonderfully creative uses of a bicycle I’ve yet to see was the outfitting of a bicycle to hold bunches of bananas on the downtube and the rear panniers.

It was matched only by another similar setup for oranges, grapes and pomegranates on what was essentially a two-wheeled fruit cart.

Yet far more ubiquitous were the bicycle rickshaws that offered rides for tourists and naps for drivers.
