A Plan for India

My last purchase in Indonesia: A guidebook for India.

DENPASAR, Indonesia — My last purchase in Bali was a copy of the Lonely Planet guidebook to India.

Though overpriced at the Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali, the weighty tome looked promising in its scope, touching on culture, history, politics, geography and incredibly (I hoped) useful things like an overview of train schedules.

Having traveled across Indonesia without a book or an itinerary was great, but India seemed like a whole different animal.

My plan was to read it on the way to Kuala Lumpur — after I speed-wrote a few postcards and mailed them at the airport.

  1. Hey Bruno, have a safe journey to India! Where are you headed in India? I was just there in the spring, went to Delhi and Calcutta. I especially loved Calcutta. It’s a very photogenic city. And Josh and I are hoping we can go to Southern India in the fall… let us know what places you liked!
